LEWIS HAMILTON has confessed that he regularly falls asleep at the wheel of his Formula 1 car.
But his insurance broker needn’t have a coronary just yet.The British ace says that the moulded safety seat in his F1 Mercedes is so snug that he’s actually nodded off in the garage between qualifying rounds.
Hamilton said: “The seating position in the racecar obviously is quite inclined.
“If you’re sitting in the car it’s so easy to fall asleep when you’re in the garage.
“Generally, between qualifying sessions, I often fall asleep between Q1 and Q2 and Q3.
“It’s so comfortable.”
Hamilton explained that each driver has a seat custom made to fit the contours of his body.
MERCEDES ace admits safety moulding around his body is so comfortable he nods off between qualifying sessions
“You make a mould when you’re making the seat. You sit in like a bag and it has foam around you which moulds around your body.
“It’s really light, something like just one kilo.
“It has to have the safety harnesses on it so if you have a crash, god forbid, they can plug in straps and pull you out in one piece with the seat.
"It’s something you have to make sure is 100% perfect because that’s what you’ll be racing in through the year.
“Through your seat and right through your bum is where you’re gaining all the different feelings that you have with the car in terms of where you can change the set up and stuff like that.
“It’s pretty neat.”
