HARRY REDKNAPP has ditched his club suit and tie — in the hope that QPR notch up an elusive victory today.
Rangers need to win four and draw one of their six remaining games to have any chance of Premier League survival. No team has ever stayed up from their position at this stage of the season.
And their task was made tougher when they chucked away three points last weekend as fellow strugglers Wigan levelled with an injury-time free-kick.
Boss Redknapp, who admits he is superstitious, has now canned his usual attire in the hope it will bring him some much-needed good fortune.
He said: “I’ve ditched my club suit this week. The suit, the shirt and the tie. They’ve all gone this week. I’m serious.
“I’ve stayed with the wife for 45 years, I really don’t want to ditch her as she’s the best thing in my life. After that I’ve ditched everything else.
QPR manager bemoans lack of partnerships after Bobby Zamora was sent off last week
"It used to walk to the ground on it’s own. What does it have to do with anyone scoring a goal? Nothing really, but I’m silly like that. I’ve always been this way.
“If you win you wear the suit the next week and if you lose then it’sthe fault of the suit. It’s crazy really.
“But I don’t think I’ve been lucky this last year. First Chelsea won the Champions League which cost Spurs a place, then it’s gone on from there.”
Redknapp described last Sunday’s result, when Bobby Zamora was sent off for a high lunge, as the worst moment of his career.
And he openly admits he has not even been able to watch footage of the game since.
He said: “It was very difficult to lift myself when I got in the car on Sunday night. I get very low.
“I stayed up in London and Jamie [Redknapp] came over and we had something to eat together. You get low after a result like that. Well I do.
“Maybe when I don’t get low and don’t care, maybe that’s the time to pack up. I can’t help it. It slaughters me.
“I go over things in my head all night. I don’t get any sleep. But on Monday I had to come in, pick myself up and get going again.
“All we had to do was stay sensible with four minutes left and win the game. Instead we gave away a free-kick. It’s horrendous.”
Adel Taarabt was at fault in the wall when Shaun Maloney’s free-kick flew into the back of the net for Wigan to level.
Redknapp, whose team travel to Everton with Zamora missing the first game of a three-match ban, said: “I don’t think Adel will be in a wall at Goodison Park!. I’ve got a feeling about that.
“He didn’t duck though. He jumped and then turned his head away. It was a mistake but the free-kick was a bigger mistake.
“To be honest I haven’t been able to watch the game again. I couldn’t look at it. I usually do but I didn’t want to. I’ve tried to blank itout of my mind.”
With his side seven points adrift of safety, Redknapp added: "It’s going to be hard but while there is a chance you have to keep believing.
”We need to win four and draw one to give us a chance but there are not many tougher places than Everton.”
