GLENN HODDLE has told Gareth Bale to forget about moving abroad for at least another year.
Tottenham star Bale, 23, is rumoured to be a summer transfer target for La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid. But Spurs legend Hoddle believes the time is not right for the Welshman to move on from White Hart Lane.
He said: “If I was personally advising him, I’d say don’t move yet.
“When you go abroad, like when I moved to Monaco, you can’t just pick up the reins and carry on. He won’t be able to do that if he goes to Barcelona or Real Madrid — that would take some time.
“His family is the key to it because settling in off the pitch is just as important as on it.
“I think another year or couple of years and he’ll be ready, but if that cheque’s big enough I don’t think Tottenham will be able to turn it down.”
GLENN HODDLE believes it is too soon for Gareth Bale to seek a move away from White Hart Lane
And Hoddle admits it would be a massive blow to his old club if the former Southampton man is unavailable for the run-in.
He added: “Oh my word, he’s been inspired. Gareth is playing as well as anyone in Europe at this moment in time and he’s been consistent.
“The consistency he’s shown is up there with Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Falcao.
“The goals that he’s scored — all types of goals — he’s playing in an inspired way and his confidence is so, so high. I can see it in him.
“It’s a spell some players go through when you think you’re unbeatable. His has lasted a long time so fair dues to him.
“He’s scored some wonderful, wonderful goals and is so, so hard to pin down.
"Now that Tottenham have given him that role behind the striker — and he can still wide from there — it’s added to his contribution as well.
