MANCHESTER UNITED have landed another major sponsorship deal by selling the naming rights of their training ground for £156million.
Carrington will be known as the ‘Aon Training Complex’ from July 1 in an eight-year deal which also includes sponsorship of United’s training kit, their annual pre-season tours and friendly matches. But the club have rejected any talk Old Trafford will follow suit and have its name sold off.
The club are fully aware of the antagonism such a move would cause.
United’s soon-to-be chief executive Ed Woodward said: “Old Trafford will not be sold.”
Aon are United’s current shirt sponsors, paying £25m a year. But that will be dwarfed by a £357m seven-year shirt-sponsorship deal with Chevrolet, which will run from 2014.
Celebrating the new training-ground deal, an Aon source said: “We are very aware and respectful of the fact that some people will continue to call the training complex Carrington.
“But in time we hope they come to understand what the Aon brand stands for and feel this agreement will enable us to do something with the club which is unique.”
United are also set to announce a new airline sponsor to succeed Turkish Airlines, in a potential £100m contract.
And they are renegotiating with shirt suppliers Nike in a deal that could pay £650m over 10 year
