DAVID BECKHAM wants Paris Saint-Germain to party at the Nou Camp tonight — like Manchester United did in 1999.
The PSG star has been using United’s dramatic Champions League final win against Bayern Munich at Barcelona’s stadium to gee up his new team-mates.Yet United’s most famous victory came after they had overcome Italian giants Juventus in the semi-final despite being two goals down away from home.
They had to do it the hard way against a Juventus team that had reached the previous three Champions League finals.
United drew 1-1 at home then went two down inside 10 minutes at the Stadio Delle Alpi before staging a historic comeback to win 3-2 and go to the final.
As if that was not enough — in the showdown against Bayern Munich two Beckham corners led to Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scoring late goals to give United the trophy.
Now PSG are in a similar position to when United faced Juve. Mighty Barca have the away goal advantage after the first leg in Paris finished 2-2.
But PSG’S £40million midfielder Javier Pastore revealed Becks has been drumming the message into his team-mates that they CAN beat Barca, who will probably start without the injured Lionel Messi.
Pastore said: “We know that after scoring two away goals, Europe expects Barcelona to progress.
“Of course they are the best team in Europe — but we want to show them that football is not always that simple.
“David has been telling us that we have everything it takes to progress — and that we just need to believe that anything is possible. He has achieved everything and played in every big game there is to play in.
“He has been telling us a similar situation when Manchester United drew at home with a great Juventus team many years ago and needed to go and win in Italy.
“It was a special Juventus team with Zinedine Zidane, Edgar Davids, Pippo Inzaghi, Didier Deschamps and many more. David said that Manchester went 2-0 down early — but they had the belief and went on to win the game and then the Champions League.”
Pastore added: “David tells the stories to create belief in the team and it works.
“It is so funny when he tells his stories in the dressing room. I look around and all the players are silent just listening to everything he has to say — it is like a teacher reading to his kids in class.”
As for Messi’s possible absence, his Argentina side-kick Pastore insisted: “With or without Messi it doesn’t matter, we know Barcelona will put out a great team.
“What we have to focus on is our game and we know we have the players to create another big upset like David and Manchester United did all those years ago.”
Beckham played 69 minutes for PSG in the first leg but was fiercely criticised in France.
But boss Carlo Ancelotti launched a staunch defence of Becks and dropped a huge hint he will start at the Nou Camp in the absence of suspended France star Blaise Matuidi.
Ancelotti said: “What matters is I was happy. Beckham should be happy. When the manager is happy he has a lot of possibility to play.”
Ancelotti insisted Beckham’s international reputation means the former Real Madrid star will not be treated as a hate figure by Barcelona fans.
He said: “David has a very good image and doesn’t have a problem to play here. It’s true he was a Real Madrid player but he’s an international player and everyone respects him.”
The former Chelsea chief insisted he will not change his tactical plans just because Messi might start on the bench.
Ancelotti said: “I don’t know if Messi will play or not. Nothing changes with our strategy, it will be the same.
“The key is to have confidence in a difficult stadium against maybe the best team in the world. We have to have confidence and character.
“I’m not worried. Everyone at PSG is happy to be here. It will be a beautiful evening. Everyone knows it will be difficult. But we do have a chance as we showed in the first match.”
PSG hitman Zlatan Ibrahimovic has lavished more praise on Beckham for raising PSG’s profile and also dragging all the media frenzy from the Sweden ace.
Ibrahimovic said: “He has been very important for us. The club has been changing from a normal club to a top club and Beckham gives you some kind of confidence.
“It’s good for me he came so they leave me a little bit alone.”
Imagine the attention Becks will get if he plays and PSG go through.
