Pardew cools it

Alan Pardew

ALAN PARDEW has pleaded for patience ahead of tomorrow night’s clash with Benfica.

Newcastle go into the Europa League quarter-final second leg looking to overturn a 3-1 deficit against the Portuguese giants who are on a 31-match unbeaten run.
And the Toon boss said: “Our fans need to understand that if we go gung-ho looking for two quick goals, we’re going to get killed.
“Benfica have real quality on the break. We’ve got to be very intelligent and we must be patient.”
Newcastle have become injury-time specialists with Papiss Cisse’s goal against Fulham on Sunday the third time he has won a game late on recently.
And that is why Pardew is confident if Toon can keep themselves in the tie going down the stretch.
The Magpies boss added: “We know what we’re like at the end of games. We just need to get in a good position.
“If we can get a goal with 20 minutes to go, we can do it — that’s the agenda for me.
“It’s only been done twice — by Steaua Bucharest and Fulham. We’ll see what we can do.”
