CAL CRUTCHLOW reckons Valentino Rossi is back to his best after the Moto GP legend charged to a superb second in Qatar.
The nine-time champ proved he had lost none of his race craft after two nightmare seasons with Ducati to take the runners-up slot in Sunday’s season opener.Crutchlow was one of Rossi’s victims as the Italian’s Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo launched the defence of his crown with victory.
And Crutchlow, who finished fifth, said: “I could see who it was behind me. Valentino was amazing.
“He is riding better than I have seen him do so for the past five years.”
Crutchlow started from a career-equalling second place on the grid but lost out to the factory-backed Yamaha and Honda machines.
The Isle of Man-based ace, 27, admitted: “I said beforehand I wouldn’t be disappointed with fifth, but I am now.
“After the way I performed in practice and qualifying to finish fifth is a bit frustrating.
“If I could have got past the Hondas I could have finished second, but I lacked speed on the straight.”
