Carrick’s in frame for gong

MICHAEL CARRICK is the shock name on the PFA Player of the Year shortlist — but other England stars have been snubbed.

Swansea striker Michu also missed out on a nomination for the award voted for by fellow pros.
Gareth Bale is red-hot favourite for the gong and has been nominated along with Carrick, Robin van Persie, Luis Suarez, Juan Mata and Eden Hazard.
Midfielder Carrick has impressed during Manchester United’s title march.
And PFA boss Gordon Taylor said: “It is really good to see a player like him get recognised. He is a players’ player.”
Spaniard Michu has scored as many league goals as Bale – 17 – but was not included.
Reading striker Jason Roberts Tweeted: “PFA Awards! No MICHU!!!!! C’mon Boys!!!!!.”

VINTAGE RED ... Carrick has been back to his best this season
