City will buy big

CHAMPS ... David Gill and Alex Ferguson

MANCHESTER UNITED bigwig David Gill reckons rivals City will splash the cash this summer in a bid to reclaim the Premier League title.

United have cantered to top-flight glory this season, sealing the championship with FOUR games to spare.
Alex Ferguson’s men are on track for their highest-ever points finish, leaving City trailing in their wake.
But chief executive Gill is certain their noisy neighbours will spend big to improve their squad for next season — and confirmed United will also dip into the market.
He said: “I’m sure they will come back.
“They’ve got some ambitious plans on their investment and their academy. But that’s what the excitement of the Premier League is.
“I’m sure all the clubs who missed out this season will be doing business in the summer — as we will be — with a view to come back all guns blazing next year.”
United are aware the time will come when boss Alex Ferguson will eventually retire.
The club are wary of disclosing any details of the plans to eventually replace the legendary Scot.
But Gill has revealed any manager who plans to dismantle the squad to impose their own vision completely can forget about the job.
He added: “The quality of the squad, the composition of that squad, means that any new manager coming in will inherit a great squad of players.
“And yes he may, whenever that is... clearly want to bring in one or two of his own people, new players.
“But he won’t want to change the squad wholesale because he won’t be our manager. We’ve got to be consistent with that and that’s what we are planning on.”
