United’s new Lew chance

Robert Lewandowski

MANCHESTER UNITED have the green light to go after striker Robert Lewandowski — thanks to Mario Goetze.

Alex Ferguson is a long-time fan of Borussia Dortmund striker Lewandowski, but admitted last week he feared Bayern Munich would land him.
But yesterday the Bundesliga champs wrapped up a shock £31.5million move for his team-mate Goetze.
And this is likely to scupper Lewandowski’s chances — even though he has agreed personal terms with Bayern.
Furious Dortmund will try to block the Poland hotshot’s move or make him see out his contract and let him go for nothing next summer.
However, an £18m bid from Fergie would be hard to refuse.
The Scot tried to land him last summer but signed Robin van Persie instead.
Asked about his interest in Lewandowski, 24, last week, Fergie said: “Big signings are normally forwards, but it’s complicated enough with the ones I’ve got.”
